One weird memory was when my parents were having a dance party and they asked me to put something of mine on ... never laughed so hard to see a group of un-punk, drunk adults crazy-dancing up a storm to SOA! -- Andy NystromAndy and Cat Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01491754140293333304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5616668004118927938.post-31501542793700791042018-04-21T07:53:34.619-07:002018-04-21T07:53:34.619-07:00Very interesting. Would love to hear some SOA with Ivor-does it exist?Earthdog70https://www.blogger.com/profile/11278820694259625346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5616668004118927938.post-33687733979942641902018-04-20T12:42:12.307-07:002018-04-20T12:42:12.307-07:00Awesome! I first heard SOA on the very first mix tape of hardcore I ever received from my skater friend, Dave. It was amazing how much music was crammed onto that tape, even considering blazing hardcore and short song standards. I completely agree that the standouts on the SOA EP are "Lost In Space" and "Public Defender". But I also like the SOA track "I Hate The Kids", which is not on the EP, but on the classic Dischord compilation "Flex Your Head". I hate 'em, too, Hank!
Perhaps my most absurd SOA memory (this is almost embarrassing to recount): when I was 13 years old and already pretty deep into my obsession with punk and hardcore, (though I hadn't been to my first show yet) I was attending a "Ranger Rick" summer camp run by the National Wildlife Federation in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. One fine day, during an arts and crafts session, all the kids were supposed to be filling in time (probably so the teen camp counselors could sneak off to get drunk or have sex) by painting rocks to have as keepsakes.
I painted a small flat stone with a white background, and then in red, bold letters: S-O-A. All the other kiddies were painting nice little animal and nature scenes, flowers, happy suns, etc. Nobody had any idea what the hell I was doing. But then again, I spent that entire summer camp session telling everyone that my name was Eggbert and that I was from Pluto.
But that's a whole other story.
I wonder if that SOA rock is still in my mom's house somewhere.
I should use it to smash something.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06803430015643530975noreply@blogger.com
